Crown

A dental crown is a cap that goes over the top of a tooth to protect it and make it look better. This cover is usually made of porcelain or resin, and it helps protect a tooth while restoring its colour, shape, and strength. Crowns also replace teeth lost by accident, disease, or tooth decay. A dental implant is an artificial root that is put into the jawbone to support and hold the crown in place when there is no natural tooth or root structure to do so.

A dental crown might be needed for several reasons. Your dentist might suggest one if you have a cavity too big for a traditional filling if your tooth is worn down, decayed, or otherwise weak, or if you want to cover up a badly stained tooth.

How It Works?

How It Works?

Most of the time, you have to go to the dentist twice to get a crown. At your first visit, the dentist will give you an anaesthetic to numb your mouth and prepare the tooth for the crown. This means that they will remove any stickers and shave down the tooth so that the crown will fit when it is put in. Next, your dentist will take a mould of your tooth that has been cleaned (either with a mould or a digital scan). The lab will use this impression to make the crown, and you’ll go home with a temporary crown on your tooth.

Usually, your second visit is two weeks after the first. At this visit, your dentist will remove the temporary crown and put on the crown made just for you. The dentist will look at the crown to guarantee it fits, looks, and feels good. If everything looks good, the crown will be glued onto your tooth.

How long a full-coverage dental crown lasts depends on how well it fits over the tooth underneath it. A crown that doesn’t fit right can trap bacteria and damage the tooth over time, so the dentist needs to pay close attention to how it fits.
